Time line

Creation of the Table in an aim to act collectively concerning the implementation of daycare centres (CPEs) following the publication of Quebec’s family policy.

Completion of a study on the childcare needs of the families in Saint-Henri and Little Burgundy, and collective action leading to the creation of more than 400 daycare spaces in a few years’ time.

Participation in the elaboration of the “Portrait jeunesse montréalais 0-24 ans” coordinated by the Saint-Henri local community service centre (CLSC).

Consensus on the actions to be taken in Saint-Henri and Petite-Bourgogne to promote the development of children aged 0-5 years and foster support for parents.

Collaboration with primary schools in the elaboration of the “Je m’exprime et je grandis” project, aimed at enabling language development for children aged 0-5 years. This project will eventually lead to the development of speech therapy services at the Saint-Henri CLSC.

Implementation of the CLSC-CPE protocols to facilitate referral and support for children with special
challenges.

A large annual celebration bringing together 400 children aged 6 months to 5 years at Vinet Park to mark the Semaine des Centres de la petite enfance.

Training of the Groupe des Six, responsible for the development and supervision of locally subsidized
family daycare services before the implementation of the coordinating offices.

Launch of the “Guichet unique” project in collaboration with some daycare centres of Ville-Émard–Côte-Saint-Paul and Verdun. This initiative led to the creation in 2003 of the Coopérative enfance famille, which now manages “La Place 0-5”, the one-stop access service for childcare spaces.

First annual concerted action plans aimed at: the development of spaces in daycare centres and daycare drop-in centres in family community organizations, improving the services and activities offered for children aged 0-5 years and parents in family community organizations.

Group training on different themes for the staff of organizations working with toddlers.

Moving on to School approach to support transition to primary school.

Lobbying the borough to improve the quality of playgrounds for children aged 0-5 years in parks and to promote safety measures around parks, daycare centres and schools.

Creation of the “Livre-moi” committee to promote language and literacy learning among children aged 0-5 years: book-sharing boxes in the neighbourhoods, reading corners in family organizations and daycare centres, storytime activities in organizations and during block parties, book kits in libraries, and many other actions.

Group outings to cultural, educational and amusement places by bus outside the neighbourhood for children aged 0-5 years and their families.

Christmas on Chatham Street for children and their families.

Visibility operation of services for families and toddlers through playful and colorful road marking near daycare centres and family community organizations.

Launch of the indoor parks project in Saint-Henri and Little Burgundy on Saturday mornings.
